Tortoises have notoriously long lives, but this is just ridiculous.
A family that lost track of their pet tortoise 30 years ago has found it in their own home.
Manuela the tortoise was thought to have run away three decades ago by the Alameida family, since they didn't find her after what they thought was an exhaustive search. When the Alameida children's father Leonel passed away this month, they were clearing out a cluttered room in their home and found Manuela.
Manuela's species of red-footed tortoise can go for a long time without eating, but she had to have eaten sometime. It's speculation, the leading theory is that she survived all this time by eating termites.
Leonel's son Leandro found the tortoise in a box containing an old record player. He told Brazil's Globo G1 wesbsite, "I put the box on the pavement for the rubbish men to collect, and a neighbour said, 'You're not throwing out the tortoise as well, are you?'"
If one of your pets ran away in the past, better go check the attic — it seems you never know what you'll find in there.
