A strange story recently emerged about the daughter of a top New York doctor, Morgan Gliedman, and her Harvard-educated boyfriend, Aaron Greene, after they were both arrested on Saturday for housing an array of weapons and explosives in their Manhattan apartment. The apartment had to be evacuated as a bomb squad removed the explosive powder and highly unstable HMTD. To add to the chaos, Gliedman went into labor just as she was being handcuffed. Here's what you need to know about the couple, who police report are not terrorists, but just junkies.
1. Morgan Gliedman and Aaron Greene Were Both Arrested on Saturday
The couple was arrested on Saturday after police received a tip that their apartment housed many weapons and explosives. Gliedman, who gave birth to a baby girl, remains at St. Luke's Hospital, although she is still under arrest. She has yet to be assigned an arraignment. Greene, who was arrested at the apartment, is being held without bail at Rikers Island.
2. They Both Have Successful Well-Known Parents
Gliedman and Greene both come from highly respected and wealthy backgrounds. Gliedman's father is a top New York doctor, Paul Gliedman, and is the director of radiation oncology at Beth Israel Hospital's Brooklyn division. Her mother, Susyn Schops Gliedman, a top New York real estate agent. Greene's father, Jeff Green, is the head of a well-known New York art restoration company, Evergreene Architectural Arts.
3. Gliedman is a Drug Addict Despite Being Pregnant
The 27-year-old Gliedman, despite being pregnant, is an admitted heroin addict, and so is her 31-year-old boyfriend.
4. She Gave Birth When She Got Arrested
Gliedman, who was nine months pregnant, went into labor just as she was being handcuffed. Talk about being "saved by the bell." She gave birth to a baby daughter.
5. They Live in a Dirty Manhattan Apartment
The couple live in a dirty apartment in the expensive part of Greenwich Village. A neighbor of Gliedman and Greene described their lack of hygiene:
“They kept the apartment filthy and they had vermin problems. To be honest, you could smell him [Greene] before you saw him."
6. Their Apartment Housed Tons of Weapons and Explosives
The couple's apartment held an assortment of weapons and explosives. Police officers found seven grams of the explosive powder HMTD, a sawed-off Mossberg 500, a $1,000 Ruger over-under hunting shotgun, several high-capacity magazines, 60 shotgun shells and a replica of an M203 grenade launcher.
7. 'The Terrorist’s Encyclopedia' Was Also Found in the Apartment
Several guidebooks were found with the weapons and explosives, including "The Terrorist’s Encyclopedia V. 1.02," "Improvised and Modified Firearms: Deadly Homemade Weapons," "The Do-It-Yourself Submachine Gun," and U.S. Army manuals for creating and planting booby traps and explosives.
8. A Guest Tipped the Police Off About the Explosives
According to the Daily Mail, officers were tipped off about the couple's possession of weapons and explosives by a male guest of the two who they met in Washington Square Park and invited inside their apartment to take a shower. Could you imagine showering inside an apartment that looks like a terrorist's hideout? Kids, this is why you don't shower in a stranger's apartment.
9. Police Say Gliedman and Greene are Not Terrorists
Despite the amount of weapons and explosives found in the apartment and despite finding books such as "The Terrorist’s Encyclopedia V. 1.02," police say they two are not home-grown terrorists, but just junkies.
“It looks like they’re junkies,” a police source says. “Well-to-do junkies, not terrorists.”
Do you mean to tell me the collection of weapons, explosives, terrorist books and weapon manuals was simply a hobby? This is probably what police would have said if they found James Holmes' stash of weapons and explosives before he shot up a midnight showing of the "Dark Knight Rises" movie.
10. They are a Part of New York's High Society Social Circles
Gliedman attended the exclusive New York prep school, the Dalton School, which has also seen other well-known alumni including Anderson Cooper and Claire Danes. Green claims he attended Harvard University for his undergraduate degree and did graduate work at the Kennedy School of Government.
The Daily Beast reports that Gliedman's Facebook friend list is a who's-who of New York.
