We reported a couple days ago about a woman in Georgia who shot an intruder five times in front of her 9-year-old twins. Now, the audio from the 911 call that her husband made as he was on the phone with her has been released.
The caller is Donnie Herman, calling on behalf of his wife, Melinda Herman, who grabbed her kids and a .38 caliber gun and hid in an attic upon hearing a burglar in her home. He is heard trying to comfort his wife and tells her, "Just remember everything that I showed you, everything that I taught you, alright? If he opens that door, you shoot him, you understand?"
Then, gunshots are heard and Donnie tells the operator: "She's shooting him! She's shooting him!" then directs his wife to "Shoot him again! Shoot him." Donnie also told the operator that he could hear the burglar pleading for his life.
Melinda fired 6 shots, and hit intruder Paul Ali Slater 5 times. Somehow, he survived the shooting, drove away in his car, and crashed it shortly thereafter. WSBTV reported that Slater has a considerable criminal past.
Donnie told WSBTB reporters that he was proud of his wife, saying, "My wife is a hero. She protected her kids. She did what she was supposed to do as a responsible, prepared gun owner."
