In a miraculous escape from death, a 1-year-old baby girl was saved from oncoming traffic after she was hurled from a vehicle in a high-speed accident.
This harrowing Russian dash-cam footage shows the baby flying out of a Mitsubishi SUV after the car spins out of control on slippery roads and is struck in the rear by an oncoming truck. Somehow, additional oncoming trucks manage to avoid hitting the baby, allowing the SUV's driver to scoop the child off the road.
The accident took place on Sunday at a highway near Nizhny Novgorod in western Russia, where snow made the roads treacherous. Police told Russian media the child was in a blanket on the parcel shelf near the rear window instead of being strapped into a car seat. After the accident, the baby was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Officers say that the driver, identified as 53-year-old Dmity Aliev, lost control of the car on the icy road. The Russian parliament is considering a law to increase fines on drivers who don't put kids in car seats. Some 10 percent of accidents in Russia involve kids who aren't in car seats.
