The “other woman” in the affair that prompted CIA Director David Petraeus’ resignation is Paula Broadwell, the biographer who wrote All In: The Education of General David Petraeus.

Slate’s Fred Kaplan writes:

It had long been rumored that something was going on between Petraeus and Broadwell. Her book, co-written with Vernon Loeb, is widely regarded as a valentine to the general. When she was embedded with him in Afghanistan, they went on frequent 5-mile runs together. But Petraeus went on 5-mile runs with many reporters, and few people who knew him took the rumors seriously.

As we just reported, the FBI probed their affair and found steamy emails including a reference to sex under a desk.

Newsmax’s Ronald Kessler reports that their affair began before Petraeus was named CIA director and concluded sometime after the four-star general was sworn in on September 6, 2011.

Petraeus and Broadwell have much in common: both married, both veterans, both graduates of West Point.

Broadwell’s husband, Dr. Scott Broadwell, appeared with her on The Daily Show in January and challenged Jon Stewart to a pushup contest to benefit veterans. She was plugging the Petraeus biography.
