Woman Sets Malfunctioning Vending Machine on Fire in Rage

Debra Payne Johnson

If you’ve ever used a vending machine before, you’re well aware of the frustration that’s involved when the bag of chips you spent 75 cents on gets stuck in the the vending machine’s rings. Most of us kick and shake the machine while screaming because all we want is the lousy bag of Doritos that’s refuses to fall.

This is what happened to one North Carolina woman, Debra Payne Johnson, except it was a soda that got stuck and the woman took out her frustration on the vending machine by lighting it on fire. “We don’t need no water let the mother….” you know the rest…

New Bern Fire and Rescue answered a call saying that the vending machine in front of a Piggly Wiggly was in flames. Surveillance cameras show the woman putting change in the machine, kicking it and then lighting it on fire. Before she walked away, she grabbed a drink from a different vending machine.

Johnson, who is now in jail, made her first appearance in Craven County District Court on Tuesday and is charged with two felonies, burning personal property and burning of certain buildings.

That vending machine sure got what was coming to it and was totally worth the $10,000 bail.
