US Embassy in Egypt Protested

Today, armed men in Benghazi, Libya, stormed the US consulate and set it on fire, killing an U.S. Ambassador, J. Christopher Stevens. Just a few hours earlier, a group of ultraconservative protesters scaled the walls of the US Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, today in order to take down the American flag, rip it to shreds, and replace it with a black Islamist flag. Fortunately, no Americans have been reported harmed in the protests in Egypt.

The protests erupted over clips from an American film that call Muhammad (Islam's prophet) a fraud and depict him having sex and calling for massacres. The film was written, produced, and directed by an American Sam Bacile, but the clips were promoted online by an Egyptian-born Christian in the U.S. known for his anti-Islam views named Morris Sadek. No one knows who translated them and dubbed them into Egyptian Arabic.

The film itself supposedly is about the persecution of the Copts, an Egyptian Christian sect, in Egypt and takes the US to task for fighting Muslims.

Of course, Muslims find any depiction of the prophet Muhammad to be deeply offensive, so what he's depicted as doing in these clips kinda takes things to a whole other level.

The protests in Egypt were quite larger, swelling to the thousands, although, it seems they were also far less violent.

Ultimately, the movie sounds like it's probably terrible, but that's kind of the point of America. If you want to make a terrible movie that's super offensive, go ahead. Michael Bay's made millions of dollars doing it. The protesters in Egypt sound overly sensitive, but they have an honest gripe and didn't get violent so, they have a right to express their offense. This Morris Sadek guy sound like and a-hole who is needlessly stirring s**t up and anyone who threatens others with weapons and fire or kills a human being over something someone said is clearly the worst person ever.
