A series way ahead of its time that still managed to find an audience (for six seasons, at that), The Larry Sanders Show (1992-1998) was one of the first truly great original HBO programs, a meta-comedy chronicling both the on-air and off-air life of a constantly put-upon talk show host. Celebrities got to play funhouse-mirror versions of themselves as they engage in various shenanigans with Larry Sanders and his staff -- guest stars in the first season include David Spade, William Shatner, Dana Delaney, Robert Hays, Jon Lovitz, Robin Williams, George Foreman and Billy Crystal, to name a few. However, as fun as the guest stars can be, it's Garry Shandling's show all the way -- his portrayal of Sanders set the bar for the genre of "neurotic comedy," and no one's ever quite nailed it the same way.
