Boondock Saints II

With the Oscars over and done with, you might be looking to shore up your home video library with some new flicks. Well, we can help you out there, buddy - this week sees quite a few new releases on DVD and Blu-ray that will satiate any moviegoer's hungry gullet. Let's quit all the fiddle-faddling around and get to the movies.

Boondock Saints II - The sequel to Troy Duffy's cult classic isn't likely to win any new converts, but those who dug the original balls-out tale of vigilante vengeance will find a lot to love with this sequel. The flick picks up the McManus brothers after eight years on the lam in Ireland, as they return to Boston to clear their name after a priest is murdered and they're fingered for it. Shots are fired, mistakes are made, and a franchise lives on. Watch the trailer.

Precious: Based On The Novel By Sapphire - Releasing Oscar week will help this mess, but I stand firm in calling it one of the most wrongheaded, exploitative flicks of recent years. You can read my theatrical review here, but the question must be asked: why would you own this on DVD? Would you ever watch it more than once? If you do, what kind of person are you? Watch the trailer.

Capitalism: A Love Story - You can say this for Michael Moore - he never gives up. In film after film, the rotund Michiganian is going to throw hardballs at America's power structure and see what bleeds. Some have had a little more impact than others, and this latest salvo fizzled at the box office (blame post-Obama complacency), but we can depend on the Union's fattest gadfly for as long as he walks the Earth.

Old Dogs - This looks basically like torture, except torture people are usually kind enough to not make you think about Tim Allen and Martin Lawrence in the same movie. If you are the target audience for this film, you are my Dad and I don't want you reading this website because it's weird. It's like you're looking at all my friends on Facebook and trying to be "bro" with me and I don't like it. This whole movie is a douchechill. Watch the trailer.
