M. Night Shyamalan is coming off a few disappointing outings. Lady in the Water wasn't so good...in fact it was self-serving suck fest, and The Last Airbender was poorly received by the majority of critics and fans alike. So, it's safe to say that Shyamalan needs to make this one, After Earth, count, and he's off to a good start with one of the biggest movie stars in the galaxy, Will Smith.
From the trailer, we get the gist that Will and his offspring are space-borne travelers who encounter a crash of some sort and come to reside on a future version of our planet that seems to be over-run and populated by carnivorous creatures of all sorts.
Jaden Smith is the relative star of the trailer, so it seems he'll be taking up most of the film's screen-time, with daddy Will providing him the tools he needs to survive on the deadly planet.
Can Jaden pack as much star power as his dad and carry this film? That remains to be seen, but it's undeniable he has the charm and charisma that his father has.
There's several sequences in the trailer that induce a bit of jaw-dropping gasps, including a sky-gliding scene that's pretty spectacular. With mega-star Will Smith on board, there's no doubt this film will do big box-office numbers. But, it seems as though it might be up to Jaden to carry After Earth to true success.
