The Weinstein Company, buoyed by both the surprisingly strong critical praise and commercial success this past weekend of Piranha 3-D are talking to director Alexandre Aja and producer Mark Canton about a possible sequel. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Canton was quoted as saying, "We are thrilled that audiences are not just loving Piranha 3-D, but cheering for it...and it’s fantastic that so many critics are really getting the movie and recommending it. We can’t wait to get to work on the sequel.”
It's too early to say what the story line on a sequel will be. Aja was interviewed a few weeks back while promoting the film and discussed different story lines that the crew had tossed around. “We had many ideas, like the full moon party in Thailand — a huge event with like 200,00 young people from all around the world taking mushrooms and partying on the beach.”
You're overthinking it, folks. Keep it simple, you only need two things: killer fish and 3-D boobs.
