Nam Phan Gets His Win Over Leonard Garcia

Nam Phan

Second fight mirrors the first except for the decision

Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia picked up where they left off last December on Saturday night.

The featherweights went toe-to-toe for the full 15 minutes, blasting each other with punches and kicks, keeping a crazy pace throughout. Showing technical superiority and more variety, Phan worked the body and the head with combinations on his way to collecting a 29-28 sweep of the scorecards.

After losing a controversial decision to Garcia at the Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale last year, Phan was able to avenge the loss tonight by taking the opening two rounds of their rematch. While Garcia landed more power shots, Phan scored repeatedly in the opening two rounds, making excellent use of a digging left hook to the body.

Garcia turned up the tempo and fought with more control to open the third, dropping Phan briefly with a sharp left hook. But in the end, it was too little too late, as Phan evened the series as one win each.
