Middleweight bout replaces scrapped St-Pierre vs. Condit main event
Following the surprising news that UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre had to withdraw from next weekend’s UFC 137 main event, the organization announced that the middleweight contest between Brad Tavares and Dustin Jacoby would be elevated to the main card.
This will be the fourth fight in the UFC for the 23-year-old Tavares.
A member of Chuck Liddell’s team on Season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter, he advanced to the semifinals where he was defeated by eventual winner Court McGee. He defeated fellow cast member Seth Baczynski in a rematch of their quarterfinal fight that ended in controversy at the show’s finale, then stopped Phil Baroni in the opening round of their bout at UFC 125.
Most recently, Tavares suffered the first loss of his career, dropping a unanimous decision to Aaron Simpson at UFC 132 in July.
Jacoby will be making his UFC debut next weekend in Las Vegas, stepping in on short notice to replace the injured Tim Credeur. Unbeaten in his young career, the 23-year-old Illinois native most recently scored a 37-second TKO victory over Billy “Mojo” Horne.
