October event loses potential Fight of the Night

Canadian lightweight Sam Stout has withdrawn from his fight at UFC 137 with Dennis Siver. A replacement has not been named at this point.

First reported by MMAjunkie.com, no reason has been specified for the London, Ontario native’s removal from the bout.

Riding a two fight winning streak and coming off an electric knockout victory over Yves Edwards at UFC 131 in Vancouver, Stout has been steadily climbing the lightweight ranks as of late. A pairing with the German kickboxer would have surely produced fireworks, and a win would have propelled the 27-year-old Canuck to contender status. For now, that will have to wait.

Stout was dealt a tremendous personal and professional loss earlier this month with the sudden passing of Shawn Tompkins, his long-time coach and brother-in-law.

Siver is currently in the midst of a four-fight winning streak that includes victories over Spencer Fisher, George Sotiropoulos and Matt Wiman. He’s won eight of his previous nine fights to surge up the lightweight rankings over the last two-and-a-half years. His only defeat in that time came against TUF 9 winner Ross Pearson.
