Gray Maynard Undergoes Knee Surgery

Maynard undergoes surgery

Top UFC lightweight contender Gray Maynard has undergone an operation on his knee that will keep him out of action for an undetermined amount of time.

Maynard confirmed the news to HeavyMMA.com on Monday morning.

“I just had a minor scope on my knee, but everything is going great,” Maynard said.

Maynard has suffered from lingering knee issues for months, but planned to fight through them during his scheduled rematch with Frankie Edgar that was to take place at UFC 130. But when Edgar pulled out of the fight, Maynard decided to withdraw from the card and get his knee checked out. He ultimately decided to have the scope done to repair the minor damage while waiting for Edgar to recover from a back injury. The pair are expected to face off in the fall.

Maynard will see a specialist this week to determine when he can return.

UFC 130 – with the new main event of Rampage Jackson vs. Matt Hamill – takes place on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
