Camozzi receives walking papers
Middleweight Chris Camozzi has received his walking papers from the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Camozzi announced the news on his official website, along with commenting on his situation.
“Fighting for a premiere organization such as the UFC was a dream come true for me, but unfortunately I’ve hit a bump in that dream,” Camozzi wrote. “I recieved my walking papers today and I’m disappointed, but I need to stay positive and take this as a learning experience.”
Camozzi was simply outclassed by Kyle Noke at UFC 127, losing via rear naked choke just 95 seconds into the opening frame. The loss was his first in the promotion and snapped a four-fight winning streak.
But the UFC apparently did not call for his release only due to his past performance, but mainly because of a large fighter roster. Camozzi says that after earning a victory in a smaller show, he will look to compete on a larger stage once again.
“According to the UFC, the issue is less about my performance (they offered to give me a recommendation) and more to do with an overloaded roster and not enough fights for us under contract. This has nothing to do with the recent merger. My management company will be targeting shows like Strikeforce and MFC after we get a win.”
The former “Ultimate Fighter” competitor learned of news of his release today, but is apparently taking it rather well, or as well as one can take unfortunate news such as this.
At 24 years of age, he understands there is time for him to make a run back to the UFC and says that he is certain that a career in mixed martial arts is the correct choice.
“I know the journey I am on is the right one for me. I love fighting and I want to be that guy that the fans come to see. I appreciate the UFC giving me my shot, I appreciate the fans and sponsors that support me, and I look forward to making the big show again real soon.”
