Randy Couture vs. Lyoto Machida Likely For UFC 129

Former UFC light heavyweight champion
UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture is set to face off against former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida at UFC 129.

MMAFighting.com reported the match up earlier this evening.

Couture, whose return to the Octagon seemed questionable due to his film career, last fought at UFC 118 this past August, defeating former boxing champion James Toney via submission. The victory was his third in a row, accompanied by wins over Brandon Vera and Mark Coleman. Outside of the cage, Couture starred in the action film “The Expendables” this past year.

While Couture has decided to return to action in 2011, Machida will be looking to rebuild. At UFC 98, Machida earned the UFC light heavyweight title against Rashad Evans and it seemed as if he was an untouchable force. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua proved that notion wrong, taking the title from Machida at UFC 113. In his first fight after losing the belt, Machida was edged by Quinton Jackson on the judges’ scorecards, moving his record to 16-2.

The bout has been scheduled for UFC 129, the event that will mark the promotion’s first card in Ontario, and will take place at the Rogers Centre in Toronto on April 30. No fights have been officially announced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
