Winner of Cruz/Jorgensen To Leave With UFC Title

DETROIT – The winner of next month’s WEC bantamweight championship fight between Dominick Cruz and Scott Jorgensen won’t be walking away with the WEC title.

Instead, they’ll leave the cage with a UFC championship belt strapped around their waist.

UFC President Dana White confirmed the news at today’s UFC 123 press conference in Detroit.

World Extreme Cagefighting was recently merged with the UFC, with all lower weight divisions shifting to the bigger organization. As a result, Cruz and Jorgensen will be fighting for the UFC bantamweight title, with the winner likely to defend the belt against Urijah Faber in 2011.

New UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo will defend his title against Josh Grispi at UFC 125 in the first UFC main event to feature lower weight class fighters.
