Top WEC Star Faber Comments On Move To UFC

Fans around the world are thrilled by today’s announcement that the lighter weight classes from World Extreme Cagefighting will be moving to the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

It means more title fights, deeper fight cards and more opportunities to see the fast-paced action offered by the featherweights and bantamweights.

But nobody is more excited than Urijah Faber.

Faber, the long-time face of the WEC brand and one of the most marketable mixed martial artists in the world, spoke to Heavy.com on Thursday morning about his impending move to the UFC and what it will mean for his career.

“It feels awesome, man. I’m really stoked,” Faber told Heavy. “I’ve always wanted this to happen because it felt like I was carrying the brunt of the weight for the WEC. So now there are new benefits and opportunities.”

Faber brought new eyeballs to WEC broadcasts and became a fan favorite for his exciting and flashy style. He intends to do the same thing in his new promotional home and plans on competing for the new UFC bantamweight title before considering a return to his long-time featherweight home.

“When I first started in this sport seven years ago, I wanted to be a UFC champion. Now I have that chance. I can’t wait,” he said.
