TUF 8 Winner Escudero Released By The UFC

Former TUF 8 winner Escudero
Efrain Escudero has been shown the door by the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Escudero revealed the news on Twitter this afternoon.

The release comes less than one week following Escudero’s third round submission loss to Charles Oliveira at “UFC Fight Night: Marquardt vs. Palhares”. However, the loss was not the only problem, as Escudero forced the 155-pound match up into a catchweight bout, coming in at 159 pounds the night of weigh-ins, three pounds over the limit.

The loss follows a unanimous decision victory over Dan Lauzon at UFC 114, which was a successful rebound from his first professional loss, a submission defeat against Evan Dunham at “UFC Fight Night: Maynard vs. Diaz”.

The release marks the first time that an “Ultimate Fighter” winner was released from the promotion since Travis Lutter, who is notorious for coming in overweight against Anderson Silva in their championship tilt at UFC 67. Escudero also told MMAweekly.com that he will take a week off and then address his next step, but said he’d been contacted by both Strikeforce and Bellator.
