Thiago vs. Sanchez Set For UFC 121 In Anaheim

UFC welterweights Paulo Thiago and Diego Sanchez will look to each rebound from losses earlier this year when the two face off on the main card of UFC 121 this October.

News of the match up was first reported by Tatame.com earlier today.

Thiago was quickly becoming one of the top threats to welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre‘s belt before his hype train was derailed by Martin Kampmann at UFC 115. The loss was Thiago’s second in the UFC, having dropped a loss to Jon Fitch at UFC 100 back in 2009.

Sanchez, like Thiago, is coming off a difficult loss of his own, failing to reinsert himself into the welterweight division in dominant fashion. British fighter John Hathaway utilized his reach to defuse Sanchez’s efforts, earning a decision victory over the former lightweight top contender. The loss was Sanchez’s second in a row, having lost to BJ Penn via technical knockout back at UFC 107.

UFC 121 is expected to take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California and feature a heavyweight championship bout between title-holder Brock Lesnar and top contender Cain Velasquez. However, no bouts have been officially confirmed by the promotion as of yet.
