Wiman vs. Danzig II Set For UFC Fight Night 22 in September

Just two weeks after the controversial stoppage at UFC 115, the anticipated rematch between UFC lightweights Mac Danzig and Matt Wiman now has a date and a venue, as the two will meet again at “UFC Fight Night 22” on September 15 in Austin, Texas.

Sources close to the event confirmed the news to HeavyMMA.com earlier today.

The immediate rematch between the two lightweights comes as a result of the controversial stoppage when the two met on the preliminary card of UFC 115 as a part of the Spike TV broadcast. Wiman locked on a guillotine choke early in the fight and suggested his opponent had succumb  to unconsciousness. Referee Yves Lavigne called a stop to the fight, only to discover that Danzig was fully conscious. Following the fight, both Wiman and Danzig were in full support of a rematch later this year.

Danzig, the winner of “The Ultimate Fighter 6”, struggled to live up to expectations created from his performance on the reality series. Following his first two victories with the promotion, Danzig dropped consecutive losses to Clay Guida, Josh Neer, and Jim Miller before finally ending the disappointing run with a unanimous decision victory over Justin Buchholz. He currently holds a 3-4 record in the promotion.

Wiman, like Danzig, also recently recovered from a losing streak of his own. After winning four of his first five fights with the promotion, he dropped consecutive decision losses to Sam Stout and Jim Miller, but managed to cut the losing streak with a unanimous decision win over Shane Nelson at UFC 107. Following the controversial technical submission victory over Danzig, Wiman now stands at 6-3 in the UFC.
