Forrest Griffin Withdraws From Bout With Nogueira

A light heavyweight match up between Forrest Griffin and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has been scratched from the UFC 114 main card. Just under one month away from the date of the Las Vegas show, Griffin was forced to withdraw from the fight due to a shoulder injury. The news has been confirmed by MMAWeekly.com with sources close to the fighter’s camp.

Griffin, who was looking to put his devastating loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 101 even further into the past, gained a split-decision victory over Tito Ortiz at UFC 106. Nogueira debuted with the promotion on the same card, knocking out Luiz Cane in the very first round. The winner of this bout would have been launched into title consideration at the 205-pound mark.

The UFC has under one month to secure a replacement for the brother of former UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and save the fight from being thrown away entirely. No replacement has been named at this point in time.

UFC 114 is set for the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 29. The card is headlined by a light heavyweight brawl of bad blood between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Rashad Evans, each a former UFC champion. Stay tuned for further news and changes for the UFC 114 card.
