Alessio Sakara vs. Jorge Rivera Slated For UFC 118

A middleweight match up between two rising contenders on the rise is probable for UFC 118, as Alessio Sakara and Jorge Rivera will meet at UFC 118 in Boston on August 28. The match up has been verbally agreed upon according to MMAjunkie.com, though nothing has been confirmed by the UFC.

After dropping out of his match up with Nate Marquardt due to personal issues, Sakara quickly found an opponent for a bit later this year. The Italian is coming off a dominant striking performance against James Irvin at “UFC on Versus 1”, which yielded a knockout victory for Sakara. The victory extended his winning streak to three consecutive victories.

Rivera, who anticipated a slot on the Massachusetts’ card, is also coming off a dominant knockout victory of his own, having knocked out Nate Quarry at “Ultimate Fight Night 21” earlier this year. Like Sakara, Rivera is on a three fight winning streak of his own, defeating Nissen Osterneck and Rob Kimmons.

UFC 118 is set for the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts on August 28 and is rumored to feature a main event between lightweight champion Frank Edgar and BJ Penn in a rematch from the UFC 112 upset. Massachusetts native Joe Lauzon will also likely find a spot on the card, along with several other natives of the state.
