Cormier vs. Barnett possible for March 3

The Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix finale, featuring finalists Daniel Cormier and Josh Barnett, will likely take place on March 3 in Columbus, Ohio.

MMAjunkie.com reported the news.

The heavyweight finals match up was determined last September in Cincinnati, Ohio. Barnett defeated Sergei Kharitonov via submission in a very one-sided bout, while Cormier stunned the crowd with his battering of Antonio Silva. However, the tournament finale was delayed due to an injury sustained by Cormier in the one-sided performance.

While the fight and have yet to be made official for the date, which would coincide with the Arnolds Sports Festival at the Nationwide Arena, a lot of buzz now surrounds the heavyweight division after news that Strikeforce would be doing away with it shortly. The promotion just recently worked out another broadcasting deal with Showtime, but the heavyweight division will very soon no longer be a part of the San Jose-based organization.

No other fights are currently being rumored for the event.
