Kennedy vs. Miller III Likely For Strikeforce: Columbus

Jason "Mayhem" Miller

Miller meets Kennedy in March

A middleweight tilt between former Strikeforce top contenders Jason Miller and Tim Kennedy is in the works for “Strikeforce: Columbus” this March.

MMAmania.com was the first to report the match up after learning of the news from a source close to one of the fighters.

The history between the two 185 lb. contenders began in February of 2003 when Kennedy defeated Miller via unanimous decision at “Extreme Challenge 50.” But Miller earned his revenge over four years later with a unanimous decision of his own at “HD Net Fights: Reckless Abandon.”

Since their last meeting, both men have been forces in the Strikeforce middleweight division, though neither were able to secure the title. Kennedy, who dominated in his first three performances with the San Jose-based promotion, failed to earn the middleweight gold when he was defeated by Ronaldo Souza in their fight for the vacant title last August. Prior to that, Miller dropped a unanimous decision to now-UFC welterweight top contender Jake Shields in their championship bout back in November of 2009.

“Strikeforce: Columbus” is set for Columbus, Ohio’s Nationwide Arena on March 5 and will feature a light heavyweight title bout between champion Rafael Cavalcante and Dan Henderson, though the bout has yet to be officially announced. Former UFC welterweight top contender Paul Daley will also be featured on the evening’s main card, which will air live on Showtime.
