UFC Newcomer Tim Elliott Meets John Dodson at UFC on Fox: Diaz vs. Miller

Tim Elliott

Elliott replaces Darren Uyenoyama on May 5 card in New Jersey

The UFC has a new flyweight, and he’ll be thrown right into the fire on short notice.

Tim Elliott has signed with the promotion and will step in for Darren Uyenoyama next month against John Dodson. Though the UFC has not announced Elliott’s signing or the fight, the pairing has been added to the official lineup card at UFC.com, where Elliott also now has his own profile page.

The Elliott-Dodson fight will be part of UFC on Fox: Diaz vs. Miller, which takes place May 5 at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J. The card will be the third UFC show on the Fox network and features a main event lightweight contenders bout between Nate Diaz and Jim Miller. The Elliott-Dodson fight will be part of the preliminary card.

Elliott (8-2-1) started his career with a draw and two losses in 2009, but has since rattled off eight straight wins with seven stoppages for regional promotions. The biggest victory of his career came in December – a knockout win over former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver in the first Resurrection Fighting Alliance. He followed that up last month with a 28-second submission win over Josh Rave at RFA 2.

Dodson (12-5, 1-0 UFC) drops to the flyweight division after winning the bantamweight tournament on Season 14 of “The Ultimate Fighter” in December. But he is no stranger to the division. The Greg Jackson-trained fighter competed at 125 pounds before moving up to bantamweight for TUF. His official UFC debut came at the TUF 14 Finale, a first-round knockout of  T.J. Dillashaw. Dodson said after the fight he likely would return to flyweight once the UFC introduced the division – which it did the week after his victory.

UFC on Fox 3 also will feature a heavyweight bout between Pat Barry and Lavar Johnson, a welterweight contenders fight between Josh Koscheck and Johny Hendricks and a middleweight fight between Alan Belcher and Rousimar Palhares.
