Canadian bantamweights set to fight May 5 in New Jersey

Another injury has hit the next UFC on Fox card, and a pair of Canadian bantamweights now meet at the event in two weeks.

Roland Delorme will fill in for Johnny Bedford to fight Nick Denis at UFC on Fox: Diaz vs. Miller. Delorme announced the news Wednesday on his Facebook page, though the UFC has yet to make the change on the official fight card at UFC.com.

UFC on Fox 3 takes place May 5 at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J., and is headlined by a lightweight contenders bout between Nate Diaz and Jim Miller. The Delorme-Denis fight will be part of the event’s preliminary card.

Delorme (7-1, 1-0 UFC) looks to follow up on a successful UFC debut in December, when he submitted Josh Ferguson in the third round at the TUF 14 Finale. Delorme was a cast member of Season 14 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” but after winning his fight to get into the house he was beaten by eventual finalist T.J. Dillashaw in his first bout on the show. All seven of the bantamweight’s victories have come by stoppage.

Denis (11-2, 1-0 UFC) is coming off a devastating victory in his first UFC fight in January, when he made quick work of Joseph Sandoval with a 22-second knockout after a series of elbows at UFC on FX: Guillard vs. Miller. Now he’ll see if he can have a repeat performance stepping up from an FX show to big Fox. Of his 11 wins, all are by stoppage – with 10 coming by knockout.

In addition to the Diaz-Miller main event, UFC on Fox 3 gets a heavyweight bout between Pat Barry and Lavar Johnson, a middleweight bout between Rousimar Palhares and Alan Belcher and a welterweight contenders fight between Josh Koscheck and Johny Hendricks.
