Melvin Guillard Returns Against Fabricio Camoes at UFC 148

Lightweights set for July 7 bout in Las Vegas

A lightweight bout between Melvin Guillard and Fabricio Camoes is official for UFC 148 on July 7.

The promotion confirmed the bout Thursday night through its UFC Brazil Twitter account.

Guillard found himself on the cusp of a title shot after defeating Shane Roller at UFC 132 in July 2011. But back-to-back losses have sent him down the 155-pound ladder. First, in October, he was defeated by Joe Lauzon in one of the bigger upsets of the year. And his first bout of 2012 ended in a submission loss at the hands of Jim Miller. Guillard has not competed since that fight in January.

While Guillard’s run toward the title came crashing down in his last two contests, Camoes finds himself on the way up. The Brazilian is on a three-fight winning streak, though he has not fought anyone of Guillard’s caliber during that stretch. He last competed in January at UFC on FX: Guillard vs. Miller, earning a first round submission win over Tommy Haden.

UFC 148 is set for the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and is scheduled to feature a bantamweight title bout between Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber.
