UFC cuts Brazilian fighter

Junior Assuncao‘s career in the UFC has come to an end, at least for now.

The Brazilian fighter announced the news on Twitter last week, saying, “I just got cut from the UFC!! Wow … Apparently they did not like my last fight.”

The decision comes after Assuncao was defeated by Ross Pearson at UFC 141. The unanimous decision loss was his first since returning to the Ultimate Fighting Championship, though he lost two of three during his stint in the promotion between 2006 and 2007.

Prior to the loss to Pearson last month, Assuncao had won seven straight fights, including a decision win over Eddie Yagin in his return to the promotion at UFC 135 in September. That fight was his first at featherweight after dropping down from lightweight.

The promotion has not commented on the release of Assuncao, but the fighter on Twitter said that UFC president Dana White told him he liked his fight against Pearson and he was given a performance bonus after the fight, despite the loss.
