Junior Assuncao Faces Luiz Averedo At Shine Fights

Shine Fights continues to build on its May 15 card with the addition of a lightweight match up between Junior Assuncao and Luiz Azeredo to “Worlds Collide: Mayorga vs. Thomas”. The promotion announced the match up earlier today.

Assuncao, a veteran of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, had little success under the UFC banner with an unimpressive 1-2 record, including losses to Nate Diaz and Krut Pellegrino. Now, the Brazilian has turned things around and is currently riding a four-fight winning streak, with three decision victories and one submission victory. The bout comes just two months after his victory over John Mahlow at “XFC 10: Night of Champions”.

Like Assuncao, Azeredo has faced his share of top competition during his professional career. He has lost to the likes of Takanori Gomi and Joachim Hansen, but has quite the claim to fame, being one of only four men to ever defeat Anderson Silva. Azeredo is coming off a loss to Ronys Torres in July of 2008 at “Jungle Fight 10”. His bout with Assuncao will be his first fight in nearly two years.

“Worlds Collide: Mayorga vs. Thomas” is coming live to pay-per-view on May 15. The event features a battle of bad blood between UFC veteran Din Thomas and  former WBA and WBC welterweight champion Ricardo Mayorga. Nick Thompson vs. Eduardo Pamplona will also be featured on the evening’s card.
