Huerta vs. Alvarez Official For Bellator 33

Bellator Fighting Championship’s next superfight is official, as Eddie Alvares, the lightweight champion of the promotion, is set to take on former UFC fan favorite and two-fight Bellator veteran Roger Huerta in a non-title bout.

The promotion made the bout official for Bellator 33 earlier today.

Pat Curran, winner of last season’s lightweight tournament which aired on FOX Sports Net, could not face off for the lightweight title opposite Alvarez due to injury, making the choice to pit Bellator‘s number one draw up against the champion. Huerta lost to Curran in the semi-finals of the lightweight tournament in one of the biggest upsets from this past season.

Since winning the title at Bellator 12, Alvarez is yet to defend his belt, having won his past two fights via submission without the title on the line. This will be his third consecutive non-title fight since winning the belt, as he waits for Curran to recover from injury.

The two top-tier lightweights are set to meet on October 21 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the main event of the evening. No other fights have been announced for the October card, which will be broadcast live on FOX Sports Net.
