Bellator Teams With mun2, Targets Latino Demographic

Bellator Fighting Championships has taken yet another step to reach out to a larger audience, as the promotion announced today that a “TV distribution alliiance” with mun2 (moon-dos) has been finalized.

The network is owned by television giant NBC and is aimed at the demographic of young Latinos. The network broadcasts several other sports, but this will be the first mixed martial arts is consistently a part of the schedule.

“Adding MMA to our line-up is part of the network’s evolution in providing cutting-edge programming for young, bicultural Latinos in the U.S.,” stated the SVP of Programming and Production, Flavio Morales. “We’re excited to partner with Bellator in bringing weekly action-packed highlight shows of Bellator Fighting Championships to our audience.”

The first signs of the new alliance will be visible on April 17, the same night as Strikeforce: “Nashville”, with highlight shows of 60-minute length to introduce the fighting promotion to a demographic who have not had much exposure to it.

Bellator CEO and founder Bjorn Rebney further addressed the expansion of his promotion, saying that, “Given this, expanding our alliance with NBC and Telemundo to air weekly highlight shows on mun2 is a perfect fit for Bellator. We’re excited to become a part of the mun2 programming lineup and family and are proud to reaffirm our commitment to the countless Latino Bellator fans from coast to coast.”

The alliance will certainly display the ability and desire for Bellator to reach out to this specific demographic, and in a big way. In fact, when Bellator opened its doors in 2009, it was airing on ESPN Deportes weekly, which reached a large amount of homes.

Now, Bellator is featured on FOX Sports Net, another network with an enormous audience. While the newest network to work with the promotionhardly comes close to the 92 million homes Fox Sports Net reaches, mun2 is broadcast to a solid 34 million homes nationwide.

Though the demographic is the young Latino community, the broadcast will be aired in English. Stay tuned for the debut of Bellator on its newest TV partner on April 17.
