Barboza nominated for ESPY

Edson Barboza is heading to the ESPY awards.

The UFC lightweight striker earned a nomination for “Play of the Year” thanks to his incredible knockout win over Terry Etim at UFC 142 earlier this year.

ESPN.com announced the 16 candidates today.

Barboza’s impressive knockout joins the other 15 nominees in a bracket tournament. Seeded in slot 13, his performance matches up against Louis Oosthuizen‘s double eagle at The Masters, another impressive feat.

Other nominees include Jerome Simpson‘s highlight-reel flip into the endzone, the number one seed, Black Griffin‘s high-flying dunk over Kendrick Perkins, the fifth seed, and Tiger Wood‘s looping chip-in at The Memorial.

Voting is currently underway. Visit ESPN.com for the entire bracket.

The 2012 ESPY Awards take place on July 11, hosted by Rob Riggle.

The UFC’s Jon Jones and Anderson Silva have also been nominated.
