Palhares vs. Branch official for UFC on Versus 3

A middleweight tilt between Rouismar Palhares and David Branch is now official for the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s next Versus event.

UFC officials made the announcement earlier today of the bout, which was first reported right here on Heavy.com.

Palhares, who has become famous, or perhaps infamous, for his vicious leg locks, last fought against Nate Marquardt at “UFC Fight Night: Marquardt vs. Palhares,” losing via technical knockout after missing on a submission attempt. The loss snapped a three-fight winning streak, which included victories over the likes of Tomasz Drwal and Jeremy Horn.

The submission ace’s next opponent, however, does not enter this fight looking to rebuild, but rather to build upon his recent victories. Branch, who debuted in the promotion with a devastating knockout loss to Gerald Harris at UFC 116, is currently on a two-fight winning streak, including victories over the aforementioned Drwal and Rich Attonito.

The middleweights are set to meet on the preliminary card of “UFC on Versus 3,” which is official for March 3 in Louisville, Kentucky. A welterweight bout between Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann will headline the main card, while a co-main event between Mark Munoz and C.B. Dollaway will serve as the co-main event.
