Kenny Florian expects to return in May, wants Anthony Pettis

Kenny Florian anticipates a May return to the Octagon after being sidelined with a knee injury that forced him out of the “UFC Fight Night 23: Fight for the Troops 2” main event with Evan Dunham.

According to his manager, Malki Kawa, Florian wants to take on the last WEC lightweight titleholder, Anthony Pettis.

Kawa posted on his Twitter account (@malkikawa) Monday, “I just spoke to @kennyflorian. Looks like he can return in or around May… I asked him who (he) wants to fight…. Answer: @showtimepettis!”

Florian confirmed to Heavy.com that he does expect to be back in action in May and would like to fight Pettis, but he wasn’t calling out the “Duke” Roufus trained fighter.

“The knee is feeling better everyday. Rehab has been going fantastic. John Paloff has been doing a great job along with Kyle Holland over at Mike Boyles S & C,” said Florian.

“People have been calling for me to fight Pettis. I think it would be a great fight if it happens. Pettis is a great fighter who is exciting and a true gentleman,“ added Florian. “It’s an awesome fight for the fans.”

Anthony Pettis was scheduled to face the UFC 125 main event winner between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard. The two fought to a draw. Maynard was granted an immediate rematch leaving Pettis without an opponent.

Pettis’ management team MMA Inc., has stated that Pettis will be taking a fight and not waiting for Edgar vs. Maynard 3 to play out.
