Varner cut after Roller submission loss

Former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner has been released from the Zuffa umbrella following his loss to Shane Roller at WEC 53 earlier this month, and he’ll have to wait to make his big return to the UFC.

Heavy.com confirmed the news with a source close to the organization. PunchDrunkGamer.com first reported the news.

Varner was 0-3-1 in his last four fights, including two losses to rival Donald Cerrone. He was submitted by Roller in the first round of their preliminary card bout on the final WEC show.

Horodecki released, but why?

Here’s a questionable piece of news: WEC lightweight Chris Horodecki was released from the promotion after his loss to Donald Cerrone at WEC 53.

Horodecki was riding a two-fight win streak going into the fight with Cerrone, with wins over Danny Downes and Ed Ratcliff.

He could’ve simply made the move to the UFC without facing Cerrone, but took the fight and lost. He now finds himself in the unemployment line. It’s a puzzling decision by UFC management, but there’s no doubt Horodecki will get his shot at the big stage down the line.
