Death is your friend. Following the events of Darksiders, Darksiders II takes you on the quest that Death has come face to face with. Death’s brother War has been imprisoned for crimes committed in Darksiders 1 and it is up to Death to atone for War’s sins and to clear his name.

Darksiders II is an action-adventure game with role-playing elements thrown in for good measure; blending a mix of satisfying combat with character building that includes leveling up skills and decking Death out in deadly equipment. If you’re looking for a game where you can rip apart your enemies with satisfying gore, you’ve found the mother load. Darksiders II combines the feral combat aspects found in games like God of War with the platforming prowess that made Prince of Persia so famous.

Where the game shines however, is the boss fights. The bosses are truly epic in the most visceral sense of the word. They consistently dwarf the protagonist Death on a scale so large that it is reminiscent of Shadow of the Colossus. The bigger they are, the harder they fall indeed. While the story can drift into the realm of being heavy-handed on the fantasy side, it is a minor complaint when the game manages to come together so well.

If you’re itching to slice into some hellspawn and take on some truly great bosses, Darksiders II is your best bet to sate your thirst. Xbox360, PS3, PC, Wii U.
