What’s New In Games: Fez, Spirit Camera

It’s bit of a light week, but one game in particular is one of the most eagerly awaited indie releases in a long damn time and really the only one you need to know about. Though there’s also the latest for the 3DS that proves when it comes to portable gaming, Apple ain’t got nuthin’ on Nintendo.

It would seem that the Nintendo 3DS is finally hitting it’s stride. The good games are coming out at a steady pace, plus with the Wii living out its twilight days and the new console still far off on the horizon, Nintendo is firmly focused on their handheld. So enter a wacky game from Japan that’s all about taking pictures of ghosts. Spirit Camera is actually a spiritual sequel to the Fatal Frame series, but this time around, you can actually take pictures of ghosts with the 3DS’s built-in camera! In addition to a standard story mode, there’s a ton of AR modes, like ghost hunting or taking pics of people and turning them into specters. Sure it sounds a lot like the b.s. iPhone apps that flood the App Store these days, but this one is has Nintendo’s seal of approval. Meaning it should actually be worth more than 2 seconds of your time. 3DS

It’s finally here. One of the most eagerly anticipated indie games in a very long time, if not THE most anticipated indie game. After many years of development, (with updates one more jaw dropping than the next) the ultimate 2d/3d platformer is here. The concept is very simple: you play a little guy with a funny hat that must navigate a world that is three-dimensional, but because of it’s two-dimensional perspective, one must treat it as such. Is there an obstacle in the way? Just change your perspective and watch it go away! Or help create a new path; the game is equal parts platforming action and puzzle solving. And it looks to be well worth the wait. You’re gonna want to check this one out, folks. XBLA
