Hey, do you remember a time in which licensed games automatically sucked? Yeah, I hardly do either. Arkham Asylum set the bar might high for a comic book to video game translation, so much so to the point that many figured it would be an impossible feat to repeat. And never before has a game had so many expectations going in, that were all met without breaking a sweat.
To be completely honest, this one was a total toss up between it and Battlefield 3, for perhaps obvious reasons. Both are state of art takes on the virtual battlefield. Both have amazing multiplayer modes, and both have somewhat disappointing single player modes. Both also have assorted social aspects which we'd all rather do without. But in the end, the latest Call of Duty simply shined a tad bit brighter in most departments, plus the slightly more fanatical fan base also helps.
Just when everyone had counted Nintendo out, they deliver what might be their finest hour, period. And that's no hot air. It took them long enough, but at long last is a game that completely justifies motion sensed based gaming. Everything, from top to bottom, feels like a love letter to all its fans out there, as well as a thank you note to everyone who stuck by Zelda and the company that gave birth to it after all these years. Plus, it'll remind you why you fell in love with video games in the first place.
Does anything really need to be said here? If you ask anyone these days if they've played the new Zelda or anything else, you're almost guaranteed to get the following answer: "Nope, too busy with Skyrim." Simply put, whereas everyone's talking about Minecraft, everyone is PLAYING Skyrim. Rarely has a game offered a player the chance to become completely lost in the world it lays out. And it strikes the perfect balance of allowing one to do whatever the hell they want, and be whatever the hell they want to be, but provide enough uncertainties over the horizon to make every moment an adventure.
