It's not perfect, but it's pretty damn close (lame boss battles not withstanding). For years people have fantasized of an open ended, cyberpunk odyssey that channeled the original Dues Ex, but tapped into today's technology and assorted refinements to the science fiction genre from recent years. And that's exactly what they got.
Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is a sore subject among fight fanatics, primarily those who are sore over paying close to full price for a game that they already purchased less than a year ago (for just "incrementally" updated content). Guess what? Get over yourselves, because the total package is basically the best fighting game out there, period. It's super deep, yet totally approachable for newbies. The new character play is unlike anything you've ever experienced. Long story short: it's what Street Fighter 4 should have been and still isn't despite years of updates.
What a long and winding road it has been for indie gaming's sandbox sensation. True, it originally hit the scene some time ago, but 2011 was when it came into it own, without a doubt (plus 2011 was when it "officially" came out in full), and was easily the most talked about game. Either one gets the appeal of virtual Legos or one does not. It's cool if you're the latter, especially since the party is only getting started, so there's plenty of time and chances for you to be convinced yet.
It's such a shame that this game went through such developmental hell, and that Rockstar basically wants nothing to do with the folks that created one of the most cinematic groundbreaking games of all time (even more so than their own home brew efforts). Already, Grand Theft Auto V has much to live up to, in terms of storytelling and acting. It's also a brilliant example of star power being used at its absolute best.
