1264060415_ron.jpgRemember Ron Jeremy's idiotic statements regarding how video games are supposedly worse than porn? Did you wonder where such vitriol were coming from? Well, the source has been somewhat uncovered.

The porn industry has been slowly dying for some time now, and five reasons and causes have been isolated. Guess what comes in at number four? Video games of course! Specifically online gaming.

One of the strangest challenges porn faces is competition from online games like World of Warcraft, though the connection may at first seem random. "It is all entertainment that you are getting involved in the same way as porn is entertainment... I won't say everyone, but a lot of people in the industry play videogames. The games are competition for porn. Fans jerk off to porn and are done, but you can keep playing a game."

Makes total sense, except for the part about a lot of people in the industry playing, not sure what the point of that statement is, other than it's just an aside. The key issue, as I see it, is that it's foolish to pay for porn when there's so much of it for free. Meanwhile, there's plenty of free MMOs available, but none of them are as compelling as, say, World of Warcraft. So the answer is simple! Make better porn.

Actually, people are paying for porn, for the niche stuff, like Suicide Girls for example. It's the traditional porn that fits the stereotypical bill that seems to be suffering. And for obvious reason, but this is a video game blog, not an adult entertainment one, so moving on!
