The rumor started when a number of critics blasted the HBO show for the show’s depiction of women and failure to include any female characters within the primary plot of the show. In a now-deleted tweet, author and show runner Nic Pizzolatto tweeted, “One of the detriments of only having two POV characters, both men (a structural necessity). Next season…”

He later deleted it because he said he did not want to make a promise he could not keep. However, recently he said that eason 2 would feature, “hard women.”

2. It Involves the ‘Occult History’ of the Transportation System

In an interview with Hitfix, Pizzolatto finally opened up about what would be in Season 2 after months of silence. He said:

Okay. This is really early, but I’ll tell you (it’s about) hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.

In another interview, Pizzolatto revealed a little bit more about the location of the season, saying:

Oh, all kinds of conspiracies suggest themselves. Especially if, like me, you’ve been reading about the last 40 years of Southern California government.

3. Director Cary Fukunaga Will Not Return

The director who added his signature dark and etherial quality to True Detective will not return for Season 2. That’s right, Cary Fukunaga is out and no one knows who will replace him yet. In fact, more than one person will replace him. Show runner Pizzolatto said that the show will not be returning to the “one director” thing, instead having many different directors for the season.

4. The Internet Is Abuzz With Ideal Casts

With the news that the original two detectives will not return to the show, the Internet, and especially the Reddit TrueDetective subthread, is suggesting preferred casting for the next season.

Some of the more frequently suggested actors and actresses are: Vera Farmiga, both Mara sisters, Sam Rockwell, Gary Oldman, Melissa Leo, Michael Shannon, and Jessica Chastain.

5. There Is No Expected Air Date
