Tonight was the finale of HBO’s hit new series True Detective. The show has baffled viewers for the last 8 weeks, and now is our opportunity to find out what the hell is going on. Unfortunately, people hoping for a major twist or a shocking revelation may be disappointed, but it was a clean wrap up and a stunning example of how society is doomed.

Here are the top 5 most shocking highlights from “Form and Void:”


1. The ‘Chain of Command’ Hinders the Detectives Progress

While interviewing the Maserati-driving sheriff, our two heroes get confirmation that there is, indeed, a conspiracy amongst the higher-ups to cover up the disappearances and killings.


2. They Track Down & Kill Errol the Killer

After one of the more tense scenes in the show, Rust and Marty chase Errol through some sort of weird brick catacombs as he whispers terrifying things to them from the darkness. Final, after a hard scuffle, Errol is blasted in the back of the head.


3. They Find Dozens of Dead Bodies

While chasing through the catacombs, a lot of wrapped up humaniod-shaped bundles appear in the background. Upon further inspection, police find the bodies for dozens of missing people from over the last 30 years.


4. Both Detectives Are Injured in the Catch

I would hate to know what it would be like to have a hatchet buried in your chest. Well, that’s how Marty felt as he was trying to rescue Rust, who also had about 10 inches of knife in his stomach.

5. Any Higher Organization Gets Off & Rust Wishes He was Dead

It may seem like a bleak ending because the rich Tuttle family get off scott-free. As Marty says though, that’s just not the kind of world we live in. Rust, who has rejected any form of spirituality or emotion, ends the show weeping because when he momentarily died, he felt his daughters love.
