AmericanIdol.net has collected surveys and betting odds from different sites, which have all confirmed that Preston is at the top of the winner predictions list.

Based on our polls and the Vegas odds, this week we’ll have to call the most likely singer to be the one who won American Idol 2014 as Alex Preston. However, Caleb Johnson is still right on his heels and we could see him reclaiming the top spot.


2. Country Star Jo Dee Messina Is his Cousin

Jo Dee Messina, the Grammy-nominated country super star, is actually Alex Preston’s cousin. In fact, Preston has even written songs with Messina in the past. Wikipedia notes Preston’s song-writing accomplishments:

Preston has written songs with his cousin Jo Dee Messina, the rock band Framing Hanley, and Aria Summer. His song was used in the CD “Voices for Heroes,” a benefit for Sandy Hook.[6] He won the “Open For MixFest” competition organized by a radio station to open for acts such as Backstreet Boys, Gavin DeGraw and Of Monsters and Men.

3. Preston Wrote his First Song When he was 12 Years Old

When Preston was 12 years old, he came up with his first song titled “Fish Food.” Once he entered Souhegan High School in Amherst, New Hampshire, he played guitar in jazz band, the percussion section, and marching band. He also had a band with his friends called Undertow.


4. He Has Already Released a Single
