Barbara Walters picked Jennifer Lawrence, Duck Dynasty Cast, Prince George, Edward Snowden, Miley Cyrus, Pope Francis, Kimye (Kim Kardashian and Kanye West), and several others to be her 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013. This will be Barbara's last annual special for the "most fascinating people," as she is hanging up her hat as a broadcast journalist this coming year.
Check out the Top 10 Highlights from the last Barbara Walters 10 Most Fascinating People special.
1. Barbara Looks Back on the Previous Years
The first year of the special, there were actually twelve, not ten, fascinating people. After that, it was changed to ten people. For the first half hour of the show, Barbara takes us through her favorite and most memorable interview from the special over the years. From Bill Clinton to Paris Hilton to the Kardashians to Sarah Palin, Walters recalls her best experiences ...
2. Hillary Clinton Is Number The Most Fascinating Person
Hillary Clinton was named as Barbara Walters' most fascinating person. When asked if she would run for President again, she says she doesn't know. Check out the above link for more about Hillary's interview with Barbara.
3. Jennifer Lawrence Thinks Calling a Woman Fat Should Be Illegal
Barbara calls Jennifer Lawrence the most bankable actress in Hollywood right now. Remembering that Jennifer won an Oscar, Barbara can't leave out that she fell on her way up the stairs to the stage at the Academy Awards. Barbara also talks the Hunger Games and American Hustle.
Jennifer says the question she hates the most is "How are you so normal?" She says she's always a little nervous because she doesn't know what might fly out of her mouth. Jennifer says fame makes her feel like a zoo animal and she's surrounded by so many people all the time. Her idea of a perfect day would be waking up really late and she wouldn't have to disguise herself to go outside. But the really interesting info that Jennifer Lawrence revealed was that she ... plays the obo and hates cilantro.
4. Pope Francis Rides the Bus
Pope Francis is the first Latin-American pope, but Barbara insists that this is the least of what makes him so fascinating. He's just like one of us ... He makes his own phone calls, wears normal clothes, takes selfies, rides the bus, and is a big sports fan. Apparently, he didn't become a priest until he was 32 years old, he's been in love before, and he embraces the gay community saying "Who am I to judge?"
5. Robin Roberts' Sister Saved Her Life
— Robin Roberts (@RobinRoberts) December 18, 2013
Good Morning America Anchor Robin Roberts definitely earned her spot on Barbara Walters' list this year. Robin Roberts was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer as a result of treatment from when she had breast cancer 5 years before. She beat breast cancer and upon receiving this recent diagnosis, she was given two years to live if she didn't receive a bone marrow transplant. Thankfully, Roberts' sister came to the rescue. Bravely, Roberts had cameras follow her through her journey.
Originally, Roberts wanted to be a professional basketball player, which led her to becoming the first black anchorwoman, reporting on sports. Eventually, she joined Good Morning America.
Looking back at when she first heard the news of her almost deadly diagnosis, Roberts begins to cry and talks about how frightened she was. Apparently, there is always a chance that the cancer can return, so Roberts is not completely out of the woods, but she tries to live in the present, not worrying too much about what the future may bring.
6. Kimye Is Loved by Barbara?
Barbara Walters is a sassy girl! Making fun of kimye so professionally, they probably didn't realize what was going on!
— Kirsten Thompson (@kirsten_04) December 19, 2013
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian make the list as none other than ... Kimye. Kanye apparently fell in love with Kim when she was styling singer Brandy, but once told Barbara that he's "not into dating celebrities." Walters says she actually really likes the couple that many make the butt of their jokes ... and then she makes fun of them ... Well, mainly Kanye.
Baby North West, the video Bound 2, and their brushes with the paparazzi are all brought up, all in a positive way.
7. Duck Dynasty Puts the "Real" in Reality TV
Apparently, Barbara is not a fan of things that quack, but she's all about Duck Dynasty and all their facial hair. Walters digs into the family's duck calls and their business. Plus, she brings up the fact that cast member Phil blew off the interview because of hunting season.
The Duck Dynasty empire has over 2,000 products for purchase and the DD family has accumulated over $80,000,000.
At the end of the interview, the cast presents Barbara with a pink duck caller for her to take home.
8. Edward Snowden Is the Most Wanted Man in the World
Kudos to Barbara Walters for doing what Time magazine wouldn't - putting Edward Snowden on the list of most interesting people.
— Michelle Matthews (@Tymlee) December 19, 2013
Barbara Walters names Snowden as one of her most fascinating people, going into the full story leading up to his asylum.
9. The Royal Baby Makes the List
He can't walk or talk yet, but Prince George has made Barbara Walters' list. With the insane media frenzy surrounding the Royal baby, he is seen as highly fascinating to the world. Walters calls him a "reminder of the past, yet points us to the future."
10. Miley Cyrus Destroyed Hannah Montana
According to Barbara Walters, this year Miley Cyrus swung in on a "wrecking ball" and destroyed Hannah Montana. When Barbara asked Miley if she had any regrets about this past year, she absolutely said "no." Barbara recalls her first meeting with Miley in 2008, remembering her as very innocent.
Miley confesses that before she broke out, she was never really happy with who she was. As far as her being naked so much, she says she's called "boring" if she's overdressed and a "slut" if she's underdressed.
Halfway through the interview, Miley's mom Tish talks to Barbara as well. She clearly doesn't approve of everything Miley does, but says she's just doing what 21-year-olds do. And, just so you know, Miley's on the hunt for a new man.
And, finally, the part everyone was waiting for ... Liam Hemsworth. You can check out Miley opening up to Barbara Walters in the below link:
