New York Comic-Con 2013: Top 10 Comic Book Panels You Need To Attend

NYCC 2013 is right around the corner. Any hardcore comic book fan worth his/her salt knows this is the fall geek/nerd event they need to be a part of. Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image and several other notable comic book publishers will be on hand for some exclusive panels that will give hungry comic book buyers some new info to look forward to.

If you’re hitting up NYCC 2013, then make sure you’re planning you panel schedule out the right way. The comic book panels we’re going to place on this list are the best of the best.

1. The Walking Dead 10th Anniversary Panel

The Walking Dead comic book series still maintains its spot as one of the most popular comic books out today. Can you believe that the creators of this zombie comic are going to celebrate the series’ 10th Anniversary. Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard are going to hold the comic’s festivities in front of a live audience. We’re sure the Q&A session will be a passionate one. 2. World Premiere of Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics

Everyone holds their favorite super heroes up to a high level of esteem. But some folks tend to prefer the super villains that DON’T try to save the day. A new documentary will offer a look into the best (worst?) villains of the DC Universe. Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics will make its grand debut at NYCC, so make sure your attendance for the big show. This doc will make be distributed by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on Oct. 25, 2013.


3. Superman 75th Celebration

Sat. Oct. 12, 12:15 pm – 1:15 pm, Main Stage 1-D

The Man of Steel has been flying high and racing like a speeding bullet for 75 years now. This celebratory panel will track good ol’ Supes 75-year journey and what’s next for DC’s most famous superhero. Fans in attendance and live stream followers will also get the chance to watch the debut of a special 75th Anniversary short. Make sure you’re tuned in on sitting down when Superman’s celebration begins. Make sure you check out the “Superman 75” display that’s going to be available all weekend, too.


4. DC Entertainment – All Access

DC Entertainment has a ton of cool story threads, character reboots and comic books on the shelves right now. When they hit the big stage at this year’s NYCC, they showcase their topnotch talent from DC Comics, Vertigo and DC Digital. For anyone out there who’s not hitting up this panel when it happens live, just go ahead and watch the live stream through NYCCLive. What’s next for DC Entertainment? We’ll probably find out when this panel goes down.


5. DC Comics – The New 52

DC Comics’ New 52 has been going strong for a while now. DC’s most famous heroes have experience new origins, adventures and much more in DC’s comic book wide reboot. DC will be one hand for this panel that takes a peek into what’s next for the New 52 movement. And yes, you can watch it through the NYCC livestream.

7. Superheroes: A Never-Ending Battle – PBS Documentary

Thur. Oct. 10, 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm, Room 1A01

PBS’ upcoming documentary, Superheroes: A Never-Ending Battle, will offer a viewers a look into the long running history of comic book superheroes. A couple of new scenes from the documentary will be shown during this panel, which will differ from the scenes shown during NYCC 2011. Make sure you check out the companion book Superheroes! at the Random House Booth, too!


8. DC Comics – Batman

Fri. Oct. 11, 5:15 pm – 6:15 pm, Empire Stage 1-E

Batman’s current run of comics has resulted in multiple DC Comics sporting him, his teammates and his sworn enemies. Writer Scott Snyder and renowned artist Greg Capullo are the two brains behind The Dark Knight’s latest storyline, Batman: Zero Year. Both of these comic book luminaries are going to come to NYCC for a panel on all things Batman – past- present and future. This panel is also available for live streaming, folks.


9. You’ve Broken Into Comics, Now What? Becoming a Comics Pro and Managing Your Expectations

Anyone’s who’s serious about their comic book career needs to be present during this panel. If you’ve made some headway in the comic book world and gotten together with some awesome collaborators, the advice given out at this panel will be worth listening to. Oni Press editor Charlie Chu (The Sixth Gun) and a plenty of other comic book writers/artists are going to be present to offer some sage advice to up and coming comic book professionals.


10. Archie Comics: Zombies, Heroes, Cartoons, Movies and more!

Archie Comics is heading into some exciting territory. A new horror series is launching from the comic book line, plus its new superhero line is gaining some steam. And you know what’s even more exciting? News about an Archie live action movie will be announced during this panel! A Q&A session will also go down, so make sure you bring some great Archie-related inquiries. Plus, anyone who’s in attendance will receive a FREE gift bag worth $1000 in value.
