The World's End stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost were joined by director Edgar Wright as part of a hilarious panel during Comic Con 2013. Discussing everything from Wright's upcoming Ant-Man movie and the trio's future, Hall H was howling with laughter friday morning. Here are five fast facts you need to know.
1.This Is Part Of The "Blood & Ice Cream" Trilogy
This Focus Feature's production is the third film in this peculiar trilogy. The first flavor was the "zom-com" Shaun of the Dead while the second layer melted down to the cop caper Hot Fuzz.
The name for these movies came in an interview with Time Out London by accident. Wright realized this and decided to use it to describe this batch of movies. While the themes for the previous versions have been drastically different, this sci-fi comedy closes the book on a long and hilarious chapter in their careers.
2. Pegg And Frost Switch Roles
Typically, Pegg and Frost play the same roles when working together. Pegg portrays the responsible straight man while Frost is the trouble-making man-child. As a change of pace, the actors switch up their traditional dynamic. Frost though this would be fun to not play the "stoned idiot" for once. The World's End sees Pegg as an emotionally stunted goth named Gary who attempts to reunite with his more mature childhood friends (Frost's character Andy is a dull lawyer) for an epic bar hop ending at an ale house called The World's End. From the trailer, viewers can see things don't go according to plan. Frost thought it would be fun to not play the "stoned idiot" for once and enjoyed the change.
3. It Has A Great Cast
In Shaun of The Dead and Hot Fuzz, the filmmakers have been able to add some recognizable actors into the casts. Bill Nighy and Timothy Dalton played various roles in these productions. For the final flavor, Wright was able to get some familiar faces to round out the cast. Paddy Considine, Eddie Marsan and Martin Freeman are the other members of the group that Gary hopes to reunite one last time. Rosamund Pike completes the ensemble playing Gary's love interest. Considine and Freeman have performed in small roles in the previous installments but Marsan and Pike are new additions.
4. Wright Has Ideas For The 'Ant-Man' Sequel
Wright joked during the panel that the Ant-Man sequel as "Abdo-Man" and "The Mighty Thorax". Marvel fans breathed a sigh of relief after hearing this news but Edgar is going to play a big role in the future of that multi-billion dollar empire since his film kicks off "Phase Three" for the next sectuib of the franchise. Wright premiered test footage of the flick to an impressed audience at least year's event. With a release date set for 2015, Edgar didn't let any panic or concern show while entertained the packed hall.
5. All Three Still Want To Work Together
While the trilogy is over, all of them would like to continue to collaborate in the future in some form. The threesome felt lucky that their success has allowed to make distinctly british films. Wright should become a household name when Ant-Man hits theaters and Pegg will always be present on the silver screen thanks to his roles in Mission Impossible and Star Trek. Frost has a couple of high profile projects in the pipeline too. The movie has already premiered overseas to positive reviews. Critics have considered it to be a fitting end to this delicious series.
The World's End opens nationwide August 23rd.
