ABC Considering Live-Action ‘Star Wars’ TV Show

Star Wars TV Series

According to Entertainment Weekly, ABC entertainment president Paul Lee said he’s ready to take a look into the long dormant Star Wars live-action TV series. The move comes in the wake of Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm properties.

Lee spoke in length about his network’s next move with Lucasfilm:

We’d love to do something with Lucasfilm, we’re not sure what yet. We haven’t even sat down with them. We’re going to look at [the live-action series], we’re going to look at all of them, and see what’s right. We weren’t able to discuss this with them until [the acquisition] closed and it just closed. It’s definitely going to be part of the conversation.

The premise of the show is said to focus on the rival families as they vie for control of the seedy underbelly of the Star Wars universe. The show will also center on the people who reside within the subterranean level and air shafts of planet Coruscant.

A bounty hunter along the lines of Boba Fett may be the main character. The show’s time period is rumored to take place between the original Star Wars film trilogy and the prequels.

The Star Wars TV show project was originally commissioned by Lucasfilm producer Rick McCallum. He said the writing was the most “provocative, bold and daring material that we’ve ever done.” The scripts weren’t initially picked up because the visual effects were deemed too expensive for any broadcast or cable network.

If this live action Star Wars show comes to fruition, it will join the added trilogy of new Star Wars films being prepped for future release.
