Kelly Ripa has herself a big hunk of man to finally fill the gaping slot left by the exit of Regis Philbin.
New York Giants legend Michael Strahan, famous for the David Letterman-esque gap in his teeth — not to mention a stellar football career — will line up alongside Kelly as the new co-host of ABC's Live!, according to TMZ.
Michael retired from the NFL in 2008 after 15 years as a DE on the Giants. He's a bona fide NFL great who holds the single-season sack record with 22.5 QB tackles during the 2002 season.
Ever since Regis left Live! Ripa has been on the hunt for a replacement co-host. Recent front-runners were said to be Seth Meyers and Anderson Cooper. Strahan's appointment comes as a surprise but should produce some quality entertainment. Strahan is notoriously loud, funny and quick witted as shown during his time as an analyst on Fox football Sundays.
The two should have an interesting dynamic, but we can’t think of anyone more different from Regis than Michael Strahan. Regis is a famously diminutive person (5-foot-7, 150 pounds) compared with Michael at 6-foot-5 and 275. The two of them look as similar as Betty White and Kareem Abdul Jabbar.
The official announcement is set to take place on the September 4 episode of Live with Kelly!
Lets just hope that this TV stint goes better than Michael's last attempt at comedy:
